New Thing #10 – The Temper Trap Concert

Can I just take a minute to complain that very few good bands make their way to South Florida?  Orlando seems to be the furthest south that they are willing to go.  Luckily, I happened to be in Orlando and hanging out with some people who have great taste in music.  So my Saturday afternoon was spent at a CD store listening to The Temper Trap play a great acoustic set from about 5 feet away!   (Side note: it makes me feel really old that CD stores are the new record stores.   I remember buying CD’s when they first started coming out.)  This band has been one of my favorites for a few years.  Most people probably know their hit song “Sweet Disposition” that got popular from the movie 500 Days Of Summer.  It is one of their best songs, but they have a lot of other great songs too!  What blew me away at the acoustic set were the vocals!  They lead singer was flawless, and the harmonies were amazing too!  We got to meet the band after and they seemed like genuinely nice guys!

Even though we had plans for the evening, we decided to change them and go to the concert that night at the House of Blues.  Temper Trap blew me away again that night!  Most of their music is pretty mellow, but the show they put on was upbeat, danceable, and really entertaining.  Again, the vocals were flawless!  Some of my least favorite songs from their albums ended up being my favorites live!  Plus we got a shout-out from the band on stage because we happened to mention that it was my friend’s birthday when we met them that afternoon.  I think my favorite part of the show was the bassist who was definitely dancing to a different rhythm the whole concert.  It turned out to be one of the best shows I’ve seen in a long time!
